Castile and León offers a huge variety of characterful cities and charming villages to explore – notably Ávila, Salamanca and Segovia, which are all UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The beautiful town of Ávila, around 70 miles north-west of Madrid, is known for its medieval city walls, while Salamanca is famous for its historic university, one of the oldest in Europe.
The World Heritage city of Segovia, perched beautifully on a rocky hilltop, is another fantastic destination, known for its historic walls and ancient Roman aqueduct.
