Holiday villas in Marche

The central Italian region of Marche, sitting between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea, is a beautiful area of the country to explore and shouldn’t be forgotten as one of Italy’s least known regions. Stretching for around 100 miles along the Adriatic Coast, the region is rarely overcrowded, still offering a fantastic variety of attractions, activities and natural beauties to admire year-round.

More on Marche

The region, located north-east of the Italian capital of Rome, is known for its unspoiled, natural beauty, from its rolling hills to its sandy beaches. The Frasassi Caves are among the most famous show caves in the country, located in the province of Ancona. The region is perfect for those looking for a fantastic skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing or hiking break, surrounded by its sea waters and the greenery of its nature reserves. Beach-lovers and sun-worshippers can be kept happy with the variety of beaches here too, from the largest and busiest, San Benedetto del Tronto, to the quieter, more secluded Grottamare.

The provinces of the beautiful region are Ancona (the regional capital), Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macerata and Pesaro and Urbino – offering a diverse array of charming, traditional villages, charming towns and art cities.

The port city of Ancona is a fantastic area to explore, offering its popular, long Piazza del Plebiscito for leisurely strolls surrounded by historic buildings, museums and a great array of cafes and restaurants. Facing the sea, Ancona boasts a handful of spectacular landmarks, from its impressive cathedral to its National Archaeological Museum.

The port town of Senigallia can also be found in the Ancona province; one of the most popular seaside resorts on the Adriatic Coast with 13 kilometres of gorgeous, golden sands.

History-lovers should head to Urbino, a walled city located south-west of Pesaro, known for its significant historical legacy, off the tourist trail. Gradara Castle is a fantastic tourist attraction in the province of Pesaro and Urbino. The medieval fortress is located in the ancient town of Gradara, which stands 142 metres above sea level.

Marche’s pleasant climate is another great reason to choose the region as your next holiday destination – offering hot summers and cold, sunny and short winters. Temperatures can soar to 35*C in the summer months, particularly in July and August.
