More on Attica

The region, in east-central Greece, is notably home to Athens, the country’s capital, at the heart of Ancient Greece. With the Greek civilization one of the oldest and biggest in Europe, a trip to vibrant Athens is sure to please history-lovers – boasting 3,000 years of history!

The ancient Acropolis of Athens is a tourist hotspot (and UNESCO World Heritage Site) and must-see here. As the most striking Ancient Greek monumental complex today, it’s no wonder more than two million people visit this historic site each year.

The capital offers plenty to fill your holiday itinerary, from spectacular museums and picturesque markets to its historic centre. As well as its notorious historic landmarks and architectural wonders, the city is scattered with unique, stunning street art and a long coastline of beaches and small coves to explore.

The port city of Piraeus is also worth visiting here, located within the Athens urban area. The city is today the main port of Attica and one of the leading ports in the Mediterranean – but also known for its fantastic nightlife offerings, open-air museum, impressive churches and calm beach.

The Attica region enjoys a Mediterranean climate with dry, hot summers and mild, wet winters. The hottest months here are typically July and August, where temperatures soar to 32*C.
