More on Hamburg

With more than 2,300 bridges, there are plenty of places across the city to take in beautiful views of this great mix of city life and idyllic green spaces.

From museums and art galleries to historic churches, there’s plenty to explore on a break here, including a variety of activities on the waters including swimming, kayaking and sailing along the Alster Lakes.

Hamburg also boasts some great green spaces to relax on, including the popular Planten un Blomen urban park which spreads out over 47 hectares in the heart of the city. Around 14% of the city is actually made up of green spaces and recreational areas, offering a variety of scenic picnic spots.

Families in particular can enjoy Tierpark Hagenbech zoo here in Germany’s second largest city, known for being the first zoo to use open enclosures surrounded by moats instead of barred cages.

Hamburg Museum is another popular tourist attraction located near the Planten un Blomen park. Hamburg’s 19th century town hall, Hamburg Rathaus, is one of the largest in the country, as well as a spectacular eclectic building certainly worth visiting on your travels here.

Hamburg is known for its terrific offering of music and entertainment, offering over 100 clubs and music venues across its streets. The Elbphilharmonie concert hall is a landmark here, as the tallest inhabited building in the city.

A number of small beaches can be found on the north side of the Elbe River, between Övelgönne and Blankenese, which are popular in the warmer months between May and September, where the average high temperature is 19*C. The colder season here runs between December and March, where the average daily high temperature is 7*C.
