The region is best known for being home to the Loire Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site, a hugely popular tourist attraction boasting an array of grand castles and gardens to explore. The region’s capital city is Orléans stands on the banks of the Loire River, offering a scenic destination filled with historic buildings, buzzing markets, spectacular museums and idyllic green spaces. While a vibrant capital and fantastic part of the region to explore (a visit to the landmark Orléans Cathedral here is a must), the region’s largest city is actually Tours, standing on the lower reaches of the Loire. Centre-Val de Loire typically enjoys a mild climate and generally warm and temperate, with the warmest season lasting from June to September. The hottest month here is generally August, where temperatures can soar to 26*C. Many choose to visit this beautiful region in the cooler months, from November to March, where the crowds are few and the natural landscapes still ooze beauty and tranquility.
