The France-Comté region is a beautiful, rural area of the country to explore, boasting an array of natural beauties, a rich history and fantastic attractions to fill your holiday itinerary. Made up of four departments; Haute-Saône, Doubs, Jura and the Territoire de Belfort, there’s plenty to explore, from its national parks to its vineyards. The region’s capital of Besançon, is a beautiful, historic city – one of the best preserved historic cities in France – with a pretty town centre and handful of great museums. One of the area’s most popular tourist attractions here is the Citadel of Besançon fortification, a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site encircled by a loop of the River Doubs.

At the heart of France, the Burgundy region consists of four departments; Côte-d’Or, Saône-et-Loire, Yonne and Nièvre, known for its beautiful chateaux, vineyards and fine wine, particularly in the villages of Chablis and Nuits-St-Georges.

Its capital city of Dijon (and capital of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region) is a popular destination here, particularly its historic centre which has been registered as an UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its array of incredible buildings and stunning architecture. From the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy to the Grand Theâtre, the city offers an array of landmarks to fill your holiday itinerary, as well as pretty city parks, fountains and museums.

Bourgogne-Franche-Comté typically enjoys hot summers and cold, long winters, offering a fantastic hiking holiday throughout the year with breathtaking scenery of the Jura Mountains and vast forest landscapes.
