6 breathtaking sights to see in Thailand

Beautiful Thailand attracts millions of tourists every year! The south-east Asian country may be hugely popular, but it still boasts beautiful, unspoilt beaches and landscapes; offering white, powdery sands on its beaches to enjoy with the tropical and typically humid climate.

It’s easy to understand why Thailand, with its infamous Buddha statues and glorious landscapes of jungles and beaches, is one of the most popular places to visit in south-east Asia.

It’s a hugely enticing country even in the winter colder months, boasting a brilliant eight hours of sunshine per day in January and an average temperature of 27*C.

Check out our top 6 breathtaking sights to see in this stunning country!

1. The island of Ko Tao

The island of Ko Tao, which forms part of the Chumphon Archipelago on the western shore of the Gulf of Thailand, is a fantastic area to visit and site to see on your Thai getaway. It’s a small island of approximately 21 km² but has so much to offer! The island’s renowned for its fantastic scuba-diving and snorkelling opportunities as well as hiking and rock climbing. A bike ride around the beautiful island is also sure to please all!

2. Bangkok’s Grand Palace

The capital of Thailand, Bangkok, is known for its stunning, ornate shrines and fantastic nightlife in particular. The Grand Palace in the heart of the city is a must-see, as a complex of buildings dating back to the 18th century. This renowned landmark, also Thailand’s most sacred site, was home of the Thai King when it was built for around 150 years, as well as the Royal court and the administrative seat of government.

3. Railay Beach

Thailand is home to some of the best beaches in the world! From busy, bustling beaches boasting great water-sports activities to quieter, secluded spots for those romantic moments – there’s truly a beach for everyone here.

Railay Beach is definitely worth visiting, located between the city of Krabi and Ao Nang. It’s only accessible by boat due to the high limestone cliffs which cut off its mainland access; cliffs which attract adrenalin-seeking rock climbers from all over the world. The area, also known as Rai Leh, is also fantastic for those who desire beautiful stretches of beach, with gorgeous white sands and crystal clear waters.

4. Its world-famous golden Buddha

Located at the end of Chinatown’s Yaowarat Road, Wat Traimit is home to the world’s largest gold-seated Buddha, measuring nearly five metres in height and weighing five and a half tonnes. The historic Wat Traimit temple, also known as The Temple of the Golden Buddha, also features fantastic exhibitions for visitors to enjoy – but the infamous golden Buddha is not to be missed!

5. Ayutthaya Historical Park

Ayutthaya Historical Park, which covers the ruins of the old city of Ayutthaya, offers a plethora of sights to see on your break. The UNESCO World Heritage Site, located in the inner city, is notably home to Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, a restored temple on the site of the old Royal Palace in the city, as well as Wat Phra Ram, another restored ruin, which many believe dates back to the 14th century. Visitors can also enjoy exploring many of the archaeological finds from the ruin sites around Ayutthaya at Chao Sam Phraya National Museum, where further exhibitions are housed.

6. Tiger Cave Temple

The Buddhist temple of Tiger Cave Temple, located north-east of Krabi, is a fantastic site to see on your holiday to Thailand. The temple, also known as Wat Tham Sua, is one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the province, renowned for its tiger paw prints in the cave and impressive Buddha statues. Visitors are drawn to the 1,272 step climb in the complex, up a limestone tower where you can see ‘the footprint of the Buddha’. This journey to the top is a hugely popular tourist attraction – it’s definitely worth the climb!
