5 reasons why we love Barcelona

The vibrant, metropolitan city of Barcelona, and capital of Spain’s Catalonia region, is a fantastic holiday destination year-round!

This beautiful city is one of the oldest in the world, dating back over 2,000 years, and a fantastic cultural hub ready for you to explore. Boasting pleasant weather throughout the seasons, with the best weather between May and August, Barcelona is a brilliant escape no matter the time of year.

We love Spain’s second biggest city – check out our top five reasons why you should holiday to Barcelona in 2017!

1)    Gorgeous parks

You won’t be short of choices for a relaxing picnic in a stunning setting on your Barcelona city break. From its renowned Parc de la Ciutadella, covering an area of 18 acres with a waterfall and lake on the north-eastern edge of Ciutat Vella, to Park Güell, made up of pretty gardens and beautiful stone structures and buildings on Carmel Hill – the perfect green space is just waiting for you…

2)    Beautiful beaches

Barcelona is home to some of the best beaches in Europe! Barceloneta Beach is one of the most popular beaches here, particularly in the sun-kissed summer months, where thousands of tourists flock to swim in the Mediterranean’s alluring waters and sunbathe on the soft, golden sands under the glorious Spanish sun. Bogatell Beach is far quieter, located around 15 minutes from Bogatell Metro Station, still offering gorgeous landscapes and sun-bathing spots for those seeking a little tranquillity. Relax in one of the city’s idyllic, waterfront restaurants and cool off in the lapping waters…

3)    Vibrant nightlife

Striking Barcelona also offers an excellent nightlife scene! When the sun goes down, the streets come alive with buzzing bars, loud music and epic nightclubs, including the city’s biggest nightclub, five room multiplex Razzmatazz. Many of the city’s clubs stay open until 6am – so you can dance from sunset to sunrise! Las Ramblas is a popular area of the city in particular, a street stretching for 1.2 kilometres consisting of five boulevards, busy and bustling with tourists and locals in the day and night.

4) Incredible architecture

Barcelona is home to an array of stunning, historic architecture ready for you to explore. Its infamous Sagrada Família is a must see here; a large Roman Catholic Church designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí and a UNESCO recognised World Heritage Site. The Gothic Quarter, the centre of the old city of Barcelona, is popular amongst tourists, stretching from La Rambla to Via Laietana, and from the Mediterranean seafront to Ronda de Sant Pere.

The city is visibly rich in history which can be explored inside its Museu d’Historia de Barcelona, dedicated to conserving and researching the historical heritage of Barcelona from its origins in Roman times. Buzzing Barcelona is a big city, but perfectly sized to discover on foot or bicycle…

5)    Museums galore

This stylish city boasts an exciting array of museums for you to explore on your travels too! Aside from the popular Museu d’Historia de Barcelona, you can also visit the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, the national museum of Catalan. The attraction is home to an extensive collection of Romanesque church paintings and Catalan art dating back to the 19th century. Art-enthusiast are also welcomed to the Museu Picasso, home to one of the most extensive collections of artworks by the Spanish art Pablo Picasso, housed in five adjoining medieval palaces in Barcelona’s La Ribera.
