5 fun things to do in La Palma

The Canary Island of La Palma, off north-western Africa, is an incredible destination for the whole family! Offering a gorgeous climate throughout the year (an average temperature of 24*C in summer and a reasonable 18*C in the winter), the green island has also been declared a UNESCO biosphere reserve…

Check out our list of five things to add to your La Palma holiday bucket list!

1. Explore a museum in the capital

The capital of La Palma, Santa Cruz de La Palma, is home to the museum Museo Insular, on the Plaza de Francisco. Located on the eastern part of the island, the museum is housed in a former 16th century monastery, offering an extensive range of exhibits and art galleries. The Museo Insular is the biggest museum on the island, where visitors can learn about the local history and archelogy and immerse themselves in a vast collection of 16th century and modern art.

2. Visit the Caldera de Taburiente National Park

The beautiful Caldera de Taburiente National Park, located in the heart of the island, offers a fantastic day-out on your La Palma getaway. The park is home to the Caldera de Taburientre; an impressive mountain arch with a crater shape which originated from a massive shield volcano two million years ago. Visitors are offered a variety of scenic walks through the park with magnificent, rugged landscapes, scattered with pretty streams and waterfalls.

3. Take a dip in Charco Azul

The seawater basin of Charco Azul is a great place to relax, sunbathe and go for a swim.  A picnic near the waters is sure to please all, after a hunt around the nearby rock pools with a beautiful scenic backdrop.

4. Window shop in Puerto Naos

The charming village of Puerto Naos is popular amongst visitors to La Palma, offering a relaxed experience browsing its array of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. The areas also boasts a variety of beautiful beaches for a peaceful afternoon of sunbathing under the Spanish sun.

5. Have a forest adventure

La Palma’s stunning Los Tilos Forest is located in the north-east of the island, around four kilometres from the centre of Los Sauces. Visitors can use one of two self-guided walks to enter the unique forest, and enjoy its natural waterfalls inside. Rich in vegetation, the forest feels tropical and is a must-visit for avid walkers and nature-lovers in particular.
