Bergerac itself is a modern attractive town which offers a wide range of restaurants and many quaint traditional cafes. Nestled on a riverbank, at the heart of a wine producing area, it boasts interesting reminders of its past and offers easy access to the surrounding countryside and many famous wine producers.

Eymet. 25 km. Attractive bastide town on the banks of the Dropt river, with a thriving market square and lovely bridge over the river.

Grottes de Lascaux. 80 km. World famous caves boasting paintings estimated to be from around 19,000 years ago. France is the world's number one tourist destination, and it's not hard to understand why. It has something for everyone; some of the greatest beaches in Europe, as well as the highest mountains and the finest historic monuments, the most beautiful cities, the most idyllic countryside, the most magnificent castles, the finest rivers, and plenty more, not to mention some of the best restaurants and the finest wines than any other country in Europe. Its cities contain some of the greatest treasures, its countryside is prosperous and well tended and it boasts dozens of major tourist attractions, like Paris, the French Riviera, the Atlantic beaches, the winter sport resorts of the French Alps, the castles of the Loire Valley, Brittany and Normandy. From a relaxed family holiday in a gite in the countryside, a week or two's relaxation by the seaside, or an energetic break hiking, climbing, kayaking or cycling in France's great outdoors, this wonderful country will not disappoint you!
The word “Aquitaine“ is of Latin origin and means “land of water“. The ocean, countless lakes and three huge rivers tell us that the Romans' impression of the region is equally valid today. 250 kilometres of ocean coastline, Aquitaine has quite simply Europe's biggest beach of fine sand. This vast coastline is also home to a great many boating harbours and seaside resorts, from the beaches of the Médoc in the north to those of the Basque Coast on the Spanish border, via the shores of the Landes region. Aquitane is also a wine-growing area of worldwide reputation, the vineyards of Bordeaux produce Margaux, Medoc, Sauterne, and Saint-Emilion wines which are leading examples. The region abounds with time-honored recipes and new cuisine, with local specialties like truffles and foie gras to whet the appetite. Quality, price, and pleasure are the key words of promise in Aquitaine.
